Naomi Campbell Organizes Fashion for Relief

February 5th, 2010

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has called on the world of fashion to raise money for the people of Haiti through Fashion for Relief. The supermodel is planning a number of fashion shows to benefit the cause, and one will be included in New York Fashion Week on February 12.

Campbell has been getting together looks from fashion designers that will be worn by a number of celebrities on the runway and then put up for auction. When asked which designers she has contacted to help, she said all of them. All of the money from the auction will go to the earthquake victims.

The runway tigress has been organizing shows like this since 2005, which has helped victims of tragedies like the Mumbai terrorist attacks and Hurricane Katrina. This will be the first time in a few years that she has done the show in New York though.

Campbell said that this show will be a rare chance for the public to see the Bryant Park tents personally, as they will be moving to Lincoln Center for Fashion Week in September. She says that this isn’t the typical runway show, because having the public in the audience is more fun since they are the ones who don’t usually get to see the shows.

The supermodel had already announced an event like this for London, and when she said she wanted to have one in New York too, the calendar was already full. However, designer Charlotte Ronson was okay with moving her event so the Fashion for Relief could be included. Bryant Park producers agreed to help with getting models, and Campbell is talking to several celebrities to be in the show too.

Campbell said that fashion is the world she’s in – is what she knows and has loved for 25 years. This is their way of coming together to give a contribution, she added.
