Naomi Campbell Organizes Fashion for Relief

Friday, February 5th, 2010

Supermodel Naomi Campbell has called on the world of fashion to raise money for the people of Haiti through Fashion for Relief. The supermodel is planning a number of fashion shows to benefit the cause, and one will be included in New York Fashion Week on February 12.

Campbell has been getting together looks from fashion designers that will be worn by a number of celebrities on the runway and then put up for auction. When asked which designers she has contacted to help, she said all of them. All of the money from the auction will go to the earthquake victims.

The runway tigress has been organizing shows like this since 2005, which has helped victims of tragedies like the Mumbai terrorist attacks and Hurricane Katrina. This will be the first time in a few years that she has done the show in New York though.

Campbell said that this show will be a rare chance for the public to see the Bryant Park tents personally, as they will be moving to Lincoln Center for Fashion Week in September. She says that this isn’t the typical runway show, because having the public in the audience is more fun since they are the ones who don’t usually get to see the shows.

The supermodel had already announced an event like this for London, and when she said she wanted to have one in New York too, the calendar was already full. However, designer Charlotte Ronson was okay with moving her event so the Fashion for Relief could be included. Bryant Park producers agreed to help with getting models, and Campbell is talking to several celebrities to be in the show too.

Campbell said that fashion is the world she’s in – is what she knows and has loved for 25 years. This is their way of coming together to give a contribution, she added.

British Fashion Council to Live Stream London Fashion Week

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

This is very exciting news for Londoners and others around the world that are totally obsessed with fashion and just go into tears when thinking about not getting to go to London Fashion week. This is one of the best weeks in the whole year, aside of course from other fashion weeks.

But on Wednesday, every person out there that was crying stopped when the British Fashion Council announced that they plan to stream the show for the first time on their website. This is also the first of the 4 major international fashion weeks to go digital and stream the shows.

The first Digital Schedule will be on February 19, and fashion obsessed men and women can go to www.londonfashionweek.co.uk/digitalschedule, which will lead to more information about the streaming and a schedule of all the catwalk shows and presentations. British Fashion Council chief executive Caroline Rush says that this is great step in developing their digital strategy and is an important area of development for the future.

The streaming will feature all the designers who will be showing at Somerset House. Some of the big names include Burberry Prorsum, Marios Schwab, Jonathan Saunders and Vivienne Westwood Red Label. There will also be short films created by the likes of Twenty8Twelve, Antoni & Alison, Boudicca, and Danielle Scutt shown between the shows. Hussein Chalayan will also show three of his most iconic short films from the past decade.

Now it’s totally unbearable that we have to wait! But this London Fashion Week will definitely be the best in history, as now anybody who wants to watch it can without leaving home!

Supermodels Get Naked for LOVE Magazine Cover

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

Eight supermodels have stripped naked for the cover of LOVE, a bi-annual fashion and lifestyle magazine. The models include Kate Moss, Lara Stone, Naomi Campbell, Daria Werbowy, Natalia Vodianova, Kristen McMenamy, Amber Valletta and Jeneil Williams.

All of the models posed identically for the latest issue of the mag, which will be sold with 8 different covers starting Monday next week. All of the supermodels’ measurements are also printed, and there are 40 pages in the mag featuring them.

Katie Grand, the editor for LOVE magazine said that, for this issue, they took 8 women that are generally known as the world’s most beautiful. The mag got them to show off their bodies, which many believe are the most perfect in the world and shot them in exactly the same pose for each of the covers, she continued.

Grand also says that his was done to show how different each woman is physically from the other, which is why they also printed all of their measurements. The point is that there is no such thing as fixed perfection, transcendent or timeless, as it varies like the girls’ measurements clearly show, she added.

Mert Alas, one photographer for the cover photo shoot, said that it was interesting to study the supermodels naked while they posed in the same position. They are all so different, yet so powerful looking, he added. Marcus Piggott, the other photographer, said that each of the models were special in their own way, and he thanks them for that.

LOVE magazine is published by Condé Nast and was launched in February of 2009. For their first issue, they put Beth Ditto on the cover naked.

Fashion at the Grammys

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2010

The 2010 Grammy Awards was more about just honoring the best of the music world, it was also about fashion. There were both good and bad fashion choices made by the celebrities, as well as some that just can’t be decided either way.

The most memorable (and controversial) outfits were the ones worn by Lady Gaga, the new music and fashion diva of the world. Many people would describe her taste in “costumes” as brilliant, while others would beg to differ. She appeared on the red carpet in a lavender gown by Giorgio Armani that was encircled with, what can only be described as, a solar system, while glittering platform shoes/boots and yellow-colored hair completed the costume.

For her performance, Gaga started out in a nude-colored outfit, which covered her face as well, and then changed into a green jeweled leotard with huge shoulder pads, which she loves. The outfit showed a lot of her bottom side, but it was made complete with matching boots and glittering eye patches of a deep pink. Afterward, she changed into a white mini dress covered with diamonds, but the kick to this one was that it was curved at the back to look as though she accidentally got her frock stuck in her knickers.

Many other celebrities took to the red carpet and stage looking their best, while Britney Spears kind of face planted. She showed up at the Grammys in a sheer lace Dolce & Gabbana dress, which was worn over a black bodysuit. Really not what a mother should be wearing – it may have worked out better in her younger years. This was probably one of the worst outfits seen at the event, although some of the other celebrities were cutting it close.

Emma Watson’s Clothing Range

Monday, February 1st, 2010

Emma Watson, the British Harry Potter hottie, is creating a new range of outfits for People Tree, the ethical clothing brand. The line will include a range of clean, sexy styles, which will be made with imported and organic cotton, and she is very excited about doing it.

The Harry Potter star already has fashion contracts with Chanel and Burberry labels, and now she is working with People Tree as creative advisor for the new range. The line is aimed at the 16-24 age range and hopes to alleviate poverty by the materials they use.

Watson says that she is excited about the idea of using fashion as a tool to lessen poverty, knowing that it was something she could help make a difference with. She continued that she thinks young people like her are starting to be more aware of the environmental and humanitarian issues that surround fast fashion.

She wants to make good choices, but the options just aren’t out there, Watson added. She also noted that she doesn’t have any desire to be a designer, and she’s doing this range because she really cares about fair trade and ethical fashion.

The fashion line at People Tree consists of 26 styles for women and 15 for men, while it also includes a small collection of accessories. It will have knitwear, jersey dresses, shorts, cotton T-shirts and poplin skirts.

The clothes are made by fair trade groups completely by hand, as they use knitting, embroidery and weaving, to help create livelihoods for the 16-24 age groups in Nepal, India and Bangladesh. The new range is described as clean, sexy and easy to wear, and shoppers will find it in stores by late February.
