Lady Gaga goes back to fashion school

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Off-the-wall singer Lady Gaga will soon be making her own wacky outfits as she signs up to a summer fashion internship. The ‘Poker Face’ pop star, who is known for her weird and wonderful dress sense as much as her catchy dance tunes, will be taken under the wing of Irish hat designer Phillip Treacy.

Treacy, who is commonly believed to be one of the best headwear makers of the 20th century, has promised to teach the American songstress everything he knows. The fashion designer is well already acquainted with Gaga’s unique style, having made several headpieces for her in the past, including a velvet telephone and a silver lightning bolt.

Lady Gaga is known throughout the fashion world as a woman not afraid to experiment. Never seen out in public in anything but the most immaculate outfits, the 24 year old artist is a fan of heavy, cheek-sweeping eye make-up and bone-crushingly tight Lycra togs. She also claims that fashion is the muse behind many of her songs and performances.

Miss Gaga admits that she goes for the ‘extreme’ rather than the ‘sexy’ on stage, with masks, fake blood and electronic moving outfits favoured above slinky dresses and mini-skirts. But who knows whether she will be successful enough in her new internship to wear some of her own creations on stage? If so, it will certainly be hats off to Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga Outfit a Flight Risk

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Lady Gaga is known for her outlandish fashion sense, but we never thought that her style would actually put her danger. This came after the US pop star told Jonathan Ross last week that she would rather die than for her fans to see her in regular clothes without a pair of high heels on. She even said that she would never give up her hats or wigs for anything. This pledge took a turn for the worst on her most recent flight.

Gaga was on a long-haul flight from London to the US this week when the cabin crew started to worry when her legs started to swell due to another one of her crazy outfits. The singer had been wearing a striped black and yellow tape dress with blue Armadillo heels made by Alexander McQueen. The crew quickly insisted that she change, as they thought that the swelling could be the early stages of deep vein thrombosis. She would have risked facing long-term damage if she didn’t change.

A source with the airline she was flying with said that Gaga was a high-risk deep vein thrombosis case and was advised to change her outfit. However, the dress was so oppressive that she needed help getting it off by the cabin crew, they continued. Gaga was a little annoyed about taking off her heels, the source added, because she was wearing them in memory of McQueen, whose passing has left the singer in mourning.

Hopefully Gaga won’t have another scare like this. Since she can’t wear everyday clothes on even a flight, maybe next time she should wear something with just a little more breathing room than a taped on dress.

Lady Gaga Takes Fashion to Jonathan Ross

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

Lady Gaga got a lot of attention from the press during her most recent trip to London due to her choice of outfits. However, the upside down lobster hat and plastic chicken claws weren’t out of the ordinary for her. She’s very extreme and over-the-top with what she wears and does it all in the name of art and self-expression. She truly is a fashion phenomenon.

Before heading out of the UK though, she took the time to appear on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross. To make her entrance, she squeezed out of a red telephone booth. During the interview she wore a telephone hat – the picture of a true rotary phone, one of the old ones that Grandma use to use. This definitely had the words ‘art project’ written all over it. She also wore 3 other costumes and, of course, had a tea cup with her, as she does for most of her interviews.

While Gaga talked to Ross about dressing the way she does to be herself, she told everyone to be whatever they want to be. It isn’t about copying her, she said; it’s okay to be different. She also said that she would rather die than have her fans see her without a pair of heels on, and she would never give up her hats and wings for anything. Gaga added that she feels totally detached from the celebrity world, as she’s never seen falling out of nightclubs.

Also on the show, Gaga performed one of her newest songs Telephone, as well as an older one, Brown Eyes. For the Telephone performance she wore a PVC studded corset with fishnet tights, and changed into a bright white dress with wings to perform Brown Eyes (the latter outfit was a personal favorite).

Lady Gaga’s New Outfits for Monster Ball Tour

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

Lady Gaga is in the UK right now on her Monster Ball Tour, and she has been looking the part. It’s been revealed that the pop singer has enlisted the help of Giorgio Armani for her sensational stage costume designs. Armani says that people hear Gaga’s music everywhere they go, describing it as the soundtrack of our times. He also described Gaga as a formidable songwriter and modern fashion phenomenon.

Fashion phenomenon are the right words to describe Gaga. The new range of costumes for her tour include bold-shouldered, glittery, pantless bodysuits, which she pretty much wears everywhere. Her new wardrobe will also include a metallic, geometric minidress, as well as a black patent leather trench coat that’s floor-length. Plus, all of the ensembles are accompanied with custom sunglasses and shoes. Gaga will start wearing the new designs on March 5.

Meanwhile, it’s been rumored that Gaga wants to start her own fashion line. The word about this started to spread not long after the death of British designer Alexander McQueen, whom she was rather fond of. She says that she would love to have her own collection. It’s something she wants to do, she continued, adding that she thinks Donatella is an icon in the fashion world, and fashion and music go together in many ways.

Gaga has certainly made herself a sight in fashion, as she wears some of the most (what many people believe) ridiculous bodysuits, dresses – or lack there of – and headdresses. When she finally launches a fashion line of her own, everyone who loves her won’t be able to pass it up.
