Im just a typical fashion mum claims Madonna

Monday, July 5th, 2010

When it comes to the dress sense of her daughter Lourdes, pop icon Madonna says she is no different from any other mum.

Despite being consistently named as one of fashion’s pioneers over the past quarter of a decade, the music legend claims that her daughter’s school wear remains understated and modest. She even admited that she has had to ask her daughter to remove three-inch and six-inch platforms and wear her skirt a little longer.

Madonna, 51, says she has had OMG moments where she won’t let little Lourdes out of the house in some outfits, but no worse than any other parent. The celebrity mother was speaking to reporters at the launch of a new line of fashion wear that she and Lourdes have collectively been the brains behind, which is set to hit shops in the US next month. The range has been christened Material Girl, after the classic 80s song which featured Madonna is mesh vests, torn tutu, multiple scarves and combat boots. It continues Madonna’s association with fashion creation, having helped H&M design a line of women’s wear in 2007.

Unsurprisingly, Lourdes has said she is obsessed with the 80s period – although arguing that short-shorts tended to make your bum look quite big. According to her online blog, she is also celebrating that her mother had finally allowed her to dye her hair

Pop’s leading lady said she has had a couple of moments where ‘Lola’ ‘has appeared before her in an outfit which Mads has deemed ‘inappropriate’. The proud mum claims she is usually stunned by her daughter’s taste in clothes, be it in a good or bad way.

Madonna named as the 80s fashion icon

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

Madonna Louise Ciccone, aka Madonna, the original Material Girl, has been voted as the leading fashion icon from the 1980s

The record-breaking pop superstar’s dress sense, which was copied by fashion followers in almost every country on the planet, was recognised in a new survey of British women. The study was appropriately undertaken by Galaxy Counters – the retro chocolate.

Madonna beat fellow icons Kylie Minogue and Debbie Harry into a tie for second place, with her constant ability to update and stay one step ahead of current trends making her an undisputed fashion leader. Joan Collins, Jerry Hall and Annie Lennox rounded out the top five

Whether it was leg-warmers, mesh tops, stonewash denim, Ra Ra skirts or even kabbala bracelets, wrist-ties and chunky jewellery, Madonna started it or brought it back. Galaxy Counters spokesperson Jacqui Thomas said that one of every three UK women claimed that stonewash denim - which even today appears to be going through somewhat of a renaissance – was one of the 80s greatest fashion trends.

The chocolate maker launched the survey as it prepares to join the ranks of comeback cult classics with the prelaunch of the brand new looking Galaxy Counters – themselves an 80s institution and one of many favourites from that decade to make a reappearance of late.

For the more contemporary fashion leaders, Cheryl Cole was voted today’s most stylish woman ahead of eccentric songstress Lady Gaga. Emma Watson, Sienna Miller, Lily Allen and Agyness Dean also made the list.

Madonna Launches New Fashion Line with Daughter

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Madonna has been known as the Queen of Pop, for creating her own look, starring in fashion campaigns for designers like Dolce & Gabanna and Louis Vuitton, as well as serving as a muse for Paul Gaultier. Now the 51-year-old is finally getting directly involved in the fashion industry, becoming a designer herself to creating a clothing range for teens.

The 51-year-old singer/model/actress won’t be alone in the venture, however, as she has enlisted the help of her 12-year-old daughter, Lourdes. The two will be collaborating together with Iconix Brand Group to create the MG Icon label. The first Material Girl collection will be available online and at 200 Macy stores. It will include back-to-school clothes and footwear, as well as accessories – jewellery and handbags. Retail for the collection will range between $12 and $40.

Iconix’s portfolio of brands also includes Badgley Mischka and Ed Hardy. Company chairman and chief executive officer Neil Cole says that they are thrilled to announced the first of many new brands to be developed under their partnership with Madonna. They believe that Material Girl will be a Macy exclusive, he continued, and they look forward to working with the singer, her daughter and the Iconix team.

Although Madonna will bring in most of the attention, people won’t be able to overlook Lourdes, who has been attracting attention lately due to her original fashion choices and eye-catching outfits. The duo are photographed together wearing similar outfits often. Madonna says that it’s very exciting to be collaborating with Iconix to bring her fashion ideas to consumers.
