Pamela Anderson strips off for Nokia

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

Celebrity uber-babe Pamela Anderson has brought sexy selling to the mobile phone market.

Clearly enjoying her role as a scantily clad sex kitten, Anderson has stripped down to her saucy yet classy lingerie in a photo shoot which celebrates the launch of a new competition by mobile giant Nokia.

Resplendent in a range of dazzling underwear, the buxom actress who gained worldwide acclaim for her roles on Baywatch and in bed with former husband, rocker Tommy Lee, can be seen in varying stages of recline in a sumptuous hotel suite. Excitable readers will be overjoyed that one lucky winner will soon be joining her for a short film in the bedroom – all in good taste – called The Commuter.

Her competition-winning co-star will have Nokia to thank as the mobile phone company celebrates the soon-to-be-launched new N8 handset, which will capture all the action of Anderson, 43, and her companion. As if this wasn’t enough, the film will also have its own London premier alongside another similar feature that will star an additional lucky entrant in their own scene with Ed Westwick of Gossip Girl fame – although this one will be shot in an elevator.

Nokia said that they has tried to create something special with the new competition, one which it hopes will highlight the quality of the camera in the new N8 handset. Anderson is currently touring the UK as part of the promotion for her new role as the Genie at the Liverpool Empire Theatre’s production of Aladdin.

Topshop parts company with Kate Moss

Monday, August 30th, 2010

The end of an era in fashion as Kate Moss leaves the leading high street retailer.

Supermodel Kate Moss has designed her last regular range for the fashion giant run by Sir Philip Green, ending a successful four-year partnership.

Topshop has confirmed that the 14th collection from Moss, the upcoming autumn/winter collection, will be her swansong, although she may feature in a number of one-off designs in the future according to parent company Arcadia, who also owns fellow fashion outlets Dorothy Perkins, Miss Selfridge and Bhs.

Industry insiders claim that the separation has been amicable, highlighted by the opening of the New York flagship store last April when Moss and Sir Philip appeared side by side. It is understood that the considerable amount of time required to put a collection together was the main reason for the departure of Moss, who has chosen to concentrate on other opportunities. Only recently, Ms Moss appeared on the cover of British Vogue magazine, marking the incredible 30th time in her career she has graced the iconic magazine.

The four-year collaboration with Topshop, considered to be a lengthy relationship in the fashion industry, was believed to have netted Moss around £3 million per year. She was snapped up by Sir Philip in 2005 after the tabloid scandal which featured photos of her snorting cocaine, when many thought her career was over. Her last collection will be released in October.

Daisy Lowe named the new face of Biba

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Fashion label Biba is returning to the roots of High Street style.

In a move that evokes images of iconic sixties glamour, the retailer has announced that renowned party girl Daisy Lowe will become the new face of the chain.

The cheap, trendy clothing offered by Biba has won favour with many leading celebrities and has become associated with the style of the swinging sixties, epitomised by Twiggy and followed by the likes of Marianne Faithfull and Bianca Jagger.

Biba attempted a high-end re-launch in 2006 with minimal success, leading the group to go into administration two years later. Now, the re-launch is on again, with proud devotee Lowe at the forefront. Initial campaign images have revealed the smouldering Lowe, 21, play on the sixties roots of the brand in a leopard-print coat and kohl-rimmed eyes. The model, who has been seen at several summer festivals sporting the Biba range, said she was honoured to be involved with a label that she has worn since a teenager. Lowe claimed that Biba was one of the first names that she became aware of when she entered the world of modelling, and she leapt at the opportunity to be part of the new campaign.

The new range from Biba features denim and jewellery in addition to favourites such as faux fur and marabou jackets and a series of limited-edition party dresses. The label will be exclusive to House of Fraser, who said that the confident, fashionable and glamorous Lowe was the perfect representation of the brand.

Milan Fashion Week marred by model suicide

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

The face of Burberry has leapt to his death in Milan.

Tom Nicon, 22, the French male model who has been the front of Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton, Versace and Burberry campaigns, died after falling from his fourth floor apartment on Friday according to police reports.

Nicon was in Milan as part of the prestigious Milan Fashion Week which began on Saturday, and had attended a Versace fitting just hours before he was found dead outside his building, after his modelling agency, Success, searched for him following his no-show at a meeting.

Sources close to the model have suggested that he had been battling depression since he broke up with his girlfriend, which police described as a complicated affair. Authorities are treating the death as suicide and the organisers of the fashion shows said they would proceed as a tribute to the model.

Nicon’s death is another in string of suicides that have beset the fashion industry over recent months. In February, Alex McQueen, who this week had his ashes scattered in Scotland, took his life while in London after allegedly being unable to cope with the passing of his mother. In May, Noemie Lenoir, the French model who was the UK face of Marks & Spencer, attempted to commit suicide in a Parisian forest before being found by a member of the public. South Korean Daul Kim, 20, who had fronted campaigns for Gap, Chanel, Vivienne Westwood and Karl Lagerfeld, hung herself last year after another apparent battle with depression.

French model Noemie Lenoir in failed suicide attempt

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

Noemie Lenoir, the stunning French supermodel know for M&S adverts, is recovering in a Paris hospital after an alleged suicide attempt.

Lenoir, who has become a household name in the UK, apparently tried to kill herself while at the house of her former boyfriend, French footballer Claude Makelele, by a potentially lethal combination of alcohol and pills.

Lenoir is most well-known as the £10 million former face and body of Marks & Spencer. Lenoir, 30, has also fronted fashion campaigns for Next, Victoria’s Secret, l’Oreal and Gap. She is presently in a high-profile relationship with Carl Hirschmann, the controversial Swiss millionaire.

The model was discovered near the home of Makelele, in a forest on the outskirts of Paris. It is believed that she had been drinking a large volume of alcohol – thought to be spirits – and taken several types of drugs while she was staying at the footballer’s home, though no details of exactly what was taken have as yet been released. Makelele, at the time, was in Paris to accept a footballing lifetime achievement award.

Earlier in the evening, Lenoir had telephoned an ambulance, advising operators that she had become very ill, but then called back to cancel the dispatch. She was later seen heading groggily in the direction of the woods, where she was found by another passer-by who was out for a walk with his dog.

She later regained consciousness at the hospital, but is still showing signs of what medical staff described as an obvious attempt to hurt herself.
